Second Technique to capture your listener’s attention

As stated earlier there are three techniques to capture the attention of any listener. The second way to capture any listeners attention is the salt technique. The next challenge you have to deal with once you have grab the attention of hearer, is you have to keep their attention throughout the conversation. You can do that by using the salt technique. Listener attention will fade in and out of the conversation it is unavoidable. Their attention level will go in and out, raise and fall.

The salt technique will accomplish three things.

  1. It can help you keep your listener’s attention level up throughout the conversation.
  2. It can help you get the listener refocused throughout the conversation.
  3. It can help you grab the attention of the hearer whenever you need to make an important point.

There is an old adage that says “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink”, but you can if you feed the horse salt on his food. The salt will make him thirsty. The purpose of the salt technique is make the hearer thirsty to hear more. The best way to accomplish that is develop the art of creating curiosity in the listener.

An important point to understand about salting is don’t use it too often, it will lose it’s effectiveness. The best way to use the salting technique is use it before important points. You can also use it if you are losing the attention or focus of the hearer. Like the hook there are three types of salting techniques.

  1. A question
  2. A description
  3. An analogy

If you learn to use the salting technique properly, you will cause your hearers to want to hear more.
